Tail Lift Inspections & Why They’re Important
The Argent Equipment team is well experienced in all types of vehicle testing, allowing us to offer HCV testing, LCV testing, ambulance testing, PCV testing and more from our two Dublin testing centres. However, today we’re here to tell you about another of our services - tail lift inspections and why they’re important.
What Is a Tail Lift Inspection?
A tail lift is something that’s fitted permanently to the back of commercial vans and lorries and it’s there to help load/unload heavy cargo to and from a loading dock or ground level. Under Irish law, it’s a mechanism that needs to be examined every 12 months. To fully appreciate why it’s important, we bring you a cautionary tale.
Inspections Help Prevent Avoidable Accidents
Back in 2016, there was an incident when 2 U-bolts on the underside of a lorry’s tail lift failed. At the time, it was carrying a manual pallet truck and the employee who was using it and this failure caused it to collapse, resulting in injury and damaged goods.
This kind of wear and tear can be identified during tail lift inspections and when conducted regularly, injury and cargo damage can be avoided easily. It’s an area that should also be included in the daily walkaround checks that delivery drivers are encouraged to make.
Taking Care of All Your Vehicle Inspection Needs
So, as we can see, tail lift inspections are not just advisable, but a legal requirement. The good news is that the Argent Equipment team can ensure that the whole process is easy and stress-free.
