The CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Testing) Requirements for Buses & Ambulances
When driving on Ireland’s roads, both buses and ambulances need to be maintained and kept roadworthy in order to be legally driven. In order to achieve this, ambulance CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Testing) and bus CVRT needs to be carried out.
In this blog we take a brief look into which categories of vehicle it applies to and a few other pieces of helpful information. You won’t be an expert by reading to the end, but you will get a basic understanding of what the parameters are.
Bus CVRT Criteria
We’ll start by saying that bus testing needs to be carried out annually on buses that have more than eight passenger seats. Essentially, that’s the only determining factor that influences whether a bus needs a CVRT rather than the standard National Car Test (NCT). The person bringing a bus for the CVRT test is required to produce a 'Presenter I.D.' which can be any one of the following;
Valid Driving Licence
Passport
Public Services Card
Ambulance CVRT Criteria
Ambulance testing obviously applies to all ambulances - hence the name – however if the ambulance is less than a year old, it’s not yet required. As soon as it becomes more than 1 year old, then the test needs to be taken annually. The person bringing the ambulance for the CVRT test is required to produce a 'Presenter I.D.' which can be any one of the following;
Valid Driving Licence
Passport
Public Services Card
What to Remember When Booking
Both ambulance and bus testing is there to ensure that any vehicle from this category meets the safety standards required to drive commercially in Ireland. When booking either in, you should remember to check that the seat belts are both visible and working.
It’s also a good idea to bring along a copy of your seat belt certificate for the bus or ambulance CVRT test. It may not be needed, but it will stop unnecessary delays from occurring.
